
Senate Commerce Panel Expected to Approve Social Media Ban for Kids Under 14
A bipartisan proposal to bar children under the age of 14 from accessing social media sites is expected to be introduced on Wednesday during a hearing of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. The revised approach, offered as a substitute for a previous version of the measure, is co-sponsored by Sen. Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican who is the ranking member of the committee, and Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii). The proposal, called the ‘Kids Off Social Media (KOSM) Act,’ was written in conjunction with committee staffers of the two senators and aides to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).
