
House Speaker Expels Poilievre Amid Heated Debate, Tory MPs Leave Commons
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was expelled from the House of Commons by House Speaker Greg Fergus April 30 after calling Justin Trudeau a “wacko Prime Minister,” and refused to withdraw the comment unless he could replace it with another phrase. All Tory MPs left the House after their leader’s expulsion. Speaker Fergus asked the leader of the Conservatives to withdraw his comments three times. Each time, Mr. Poilievre’s response was that he would withdraw and replace the term “wacko” with “extremist” or “radical,” which didn’t satisfy the speaker, who was asking the leader to “simply withdraw” the comment.
