
Biden Admin Expands Overtime Pay for Millions of Americans
The Biden administration has finalized a new rule expanding overtime for millions of Americans working more than 40 hours a week, the Department of Labor (DOL) announced on Tuesday. Effective July 1, the new rule will extend overtime to salaried workers who make less than $43,888 a year when they work more than 40 hours per week. Then, beginning from Jan. 1, 2025, the salary threshold under which employers are required to pay overtime to employees will rise to $58,656. Under federal law, nearly all eligible workers must be paid 1.5 times their regular rate of pay when they work more than 40 hours in a week.
