
LAFD Recruit Dies at Scene of Traffic Crash After Stopping to Assist

STUDIO CITY, Calif.—A Los Angeles Fire Department recruit was killed Monday “when he stopped to render aid” at the site of a traffic crash on the 101 Freeway in Studio City, authorities said. The two-vehicle crash was reported at 5:11 a.m. on the northbound 101 Freeway at Campo de Cahuenga, near Vineland Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol, which issued a SigAlert shutting down northbound lanes in the area. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. Information on his identity was not immediately available, however, an LAFD spokesman told reporters the recruit was the son of an active-duty firefighter....
