‘Rust’ Movie Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed Sentenced to 18 Months

The weapons supervisor who was convicted in March on an involuntary manslaughter charge for the fatal shooting by actor Alec Baldwin on the set of the film “Rust” was sentenced to 18 months in prison in a New Mexico Court on Monday, April 15. Movie armorer Hannah Guitierrez-Reed was convicted by a jury after Halyna Hutchins was killed on set in October 2021. The 18-month sentence was the maximum sentence allowed by law. Special prosecutor Kari Morrissey urged the judge to impose the maximum prison sentence and described Ms. Guitierrez-Reed’s behavior on the set as “exceptionally reckless.” The prosecutor told the judge Monday she reviewed nearly 200 calls Guitierrez-Reed had made from jail over the past month hoping she would take responsibility or express remorse, but told the judge that moment never came....
