
California Democrats Block Bill to Re-Criminalize Prostitution Loitering

Democratic lawmakers in California squashed an attempt April 2 to recriminalize loitering for prostitution. Senate Bill 1219, introduced by Republican Sen. Kelly Seyarto of Murrieta, would make impeding traffic and loitering in a public place with the intent to direct or solicit prostitution a crime again. The behavior was decriminalized in 2022 by legislation pushed by Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), who claimed the law disproportionately targeted transgender women based on their appearance.
