
6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Reported Off Japan’s Fukishima, a Day After Record Taiwan Quake
A 6.0 magnitude earthquake has been reported off the east coast of the Fukushima prefecture of Japan, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The quake struck at 12:16 p.m. local time on Thursday. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) and European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre also registered a similar magnitude quake. Fortunately, no tsunami alert has been issued. There were no immediate reports of injuries after the earthquake, which had an epicentre depth of 40 kilometres (25 miles). The quake was also felt in Tokyo. TEPCO, the operator of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, said around one hour after the quake that technicians were checking on the impact of the quake on the facilities, and that readings so far had “no abnormality.”...
