Iran Vows to Retaliate after Suspected Israeli Airstrike on Damascus Consulate

Tehran has promised a “harsh” response to a suspected Israeli airstrike that killed seven Iranian military officers in Damascus and six Syrian nationals. “Having failed to destroy the will of the resistance front, the Zionist [Israeli] regime is again resorting to indiscriminate assassinations,” Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on April 2. “This cowardly crime will not go unanswered,” he added in broadcast remarks. One day earlier, warplanes struck Iran’s vast diplomatic compound in the Syrian capital’s Mezzeh district, reportedly killing seven Iranian military officers.
