
Birmingham-Southern College to Cease Operations After Failing to Secure Loan

Birmingham-Southern College (BSC), a 168-year-old private liberal arts institution, announced on Tuesday that it will cease operations by the end of May after failing to secure a $30 million loan from the state. BSC stated that the college’s board of trustees voted unanimously to close it down after a bill designed to amend legislation that established the loan program lacked support in the Alabama House of Representatives. “This is a tragic day for the College, our students, our employees, and our alumni,” the board’s chair Rev.
