The New York Times has ignored, downplayed, or misrepresented large swaths of human rights abuses in China, a new report says, arguing the paper’s sins against journalistic integrity have likely cost lives by skewing policy debate and propping up the regime’s dehumanizing propaganda. “Not only are the victims’ plights typically treated with silence and indifference, but even more damaging—when they are reported—articles are riddled with misrepresentations, inaccuracies, and outright hostility, displaying a shocking degree of unprofessionalism and bias,” states the report, released on March 21 by the Falun Dafa Information Center (FDIC), a nonprofit dedicated to monitoring the persecution faced by people who practice Falun Gong in China....
