Labor Backs Rudd to Remain as Ambassador Despite Trump’s Criticisms

Senior Australian politicians, including the prime minister, have backed the country’s Ambassador to the United States, Kevin Rudd, in the face of an attack by GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump. However, a U.S. president can easily revoke an ambassador’s credentials with just a signature, meaning U.S.-Australia relations under a Trump presidency could quickly become precarious. Asked by interviewer Nigel Farage on UK TV channel GB News earlier this week about past criticisms of him by the former prime minister, Mr. Trump initially acted as though he didn’t know who Mr. Rudd was. “I don’t know much about him.
