
Abortions in United States Rise to Highest in Over a Decade
Abortion rates jumped by 10 percent between 2020 and 2023 despite several states enacting strict laws against such terminations following the reversal of Roe v. Wade. There were an estimated 1.02 million abortions in the formal healthcare system in the United States in 2023, the first full calendar year after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade, according to the Monthly Abortion Provision study from the left-leaning Guttmacher Institute. “This represents a rate of 15.7 abortions per 1,000 women of reproductive age and is a 10 percent increase since 2020, the last year for which comprehensive estimates are available.
