Suspect in Oakland Clerk’s Fatal Shooting Is Reportedly Only 13

A 13-year-old Oakland, Calif., boy is facing charges of murder and attempted robbery in the Jan. 6 killing of a beloved convenience store clerk, according to local news outlets. The boy is suspected of shooting 46-year-old Maged Alazzani, a Yemeni immigrant and clerk at Orlando’s Market, a corner store in West Oakland, the East Bay Times, a daily newspaper based in Walnut Creek, reported March 15. According to the report, authorities say the 13-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed Mr. Alazzani at about 8 p.m. during the robbery. Authorities say the boy allegedly brandished a firearm. He racked the gun, which loads a live bullet into the chamber for firing, and pointed it at Mr. Alazzani, who reportedly grabbed the barrel of the pistol to try to take the gun away. That’s when authorities say the suspect pulled the trigger and the clerk was shot in the chest....
