Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says foreign policy cannot be dictated by an NDP push to have Canada officially recognize a Palestinian state. Despite her declaration, Ms. Joly didn’t state the government’s position during her speech in the House March 18, although NDP and Conservative MPs asked for clarification on where the Liberals stand. Ms. Joly said her government’s position has been “clear,” citing the need for a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, a humanitarian ceasefire, and allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza. She said there are “issues” with the NDP motion, adding that “we can’t change foreign policy based on an opposition motion.”...
