
Ministers Review Rules Following Report of Chinese Research Collaboration

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden has said the government is examining its rules following reports of research collaborations between a top British university and Chinese institutions with military links. Mr. Dowden said he takes the issue “extremely seriously,” and that the government is looking at what more can be done to protect the UK’s academic sector. The minister was commenting on a report in the Financial Times that said at least five academic papers published since 2023 involved research at Imperial College London (ICL) and Chinese institutions with links to the military.
