Just when official Washington was focused on whether or not Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will endorse former President Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, the Kentucky Republican sprang a huge surprise by announcing his retirement after 38 years in the upper chamber of Congress. In an introspective address on the Senate floor, Mr. McConnell, noting the recent passing of the sister of his wife, former Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, observed, “Perhaps it is God’s way of reminding you of your own life’s journey, to reprioritize the impact of the world that we will all inevitably leave behind. I turned 82 last week, and the end of my contributions is closer than I’d prefer.”...
