Commerce Secretary Says US Could Become Global Leader in Semiconductor Manufacturing by 2030

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo believes America could become a key player in the global microchip industry by the decade’s end. In a Feb. 26 speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank in Washington, Ms. Raimondo said that investments, such as those under the CHIPS and Science Act, will “put this country on track to produce roughly 20 percent of the world’s leading-edge logic chips” by 2030. “The brutal fact is, the United States cannot lead the world as a technology and innovation leader on such a shaky foundation,” she said. “We need to make these chips in America. We need more talent development in America. We need more research and development in America and just a lot more manufacturing at scale.”...
