
Australia Publishes ‘Gender Pay Gap’ Data of 5,000 Public and Private Companies
The federal Labor government has released the gender pay gap data of 5,000 public and private companies in a move to improve gender equality in workplaces across the country. This comes after the Closing the Gender Pay Gap bill introduced by Labor passed the federal parliament in 2023. Finance and Women Minister Katy Gallagher touted the data release as a “historic step” in strengthening transparency and accountability of the government’s work in addressing “gender inequality.” “The gender pay gap is a persistent and complex problem that costs the Australian economy $51.8 billion (US$33.8 billion) every year,” she said. “Transparency and accountability are critical for driving change. By shining a light on gender pay gaps at an employer level, we are arming individuals and organisations with the evidence they need to take meaningful action to accelerate closing the gender pay gap in Australian workplaces.”...
