Top GOP Congresswoman Announces Retirement From the House

Top Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) announced on Feb. 8 she will not run for re-election, capping off a Congressional career of more than 18 years. In a statement, Ms. McMorris Rodgers—the chairwoman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee—said that she believes there are ways to serve besides in Congress. “It’s been the honor and privilege of my life to represent the people of Eastern Washington in Congress,” she said. “They inspire me every day,” she continued. “They are part of the strength and soul of America—the greatest experiment in self-governance the world has ever known. “After much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided the time has come to serve them in new ways.
