
HS2 Offers ‘Very Poor Value for Money’: Commons Committee
Britain’s High Speed 2 (HS2) railway line offers “very poor value for money” to taxpayers, a government committee has concluded. The Commons’ Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has been reporting on the progress of HS2 since 2013. In its latest report, the committee said it’s more concerned about HS2 than ever before. Ministers voiced concerns around the project’s poor cost management. Last October, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak scrapped the northern leg of HS2 connecting Birmingham and Manchester owing to concerns over the project’s soaring costs. The remaining part of the line, Phase 1, is set to link London’s Euston to a new station at Birmingham Curzon Street.
