Stormont was visited by both Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar on Monday after Northern Irish MPs returned to the devolved Parliament for the first time in two years, with the prime minister announcing that the people of Northern Ireland would be in “charge of their own destiny.” The restoration of Stormont’s institutions, following an agreement aimed at addressing unionist concerns post-Brexit, has opened up a route for discussions across Northern Ireland over its future association with both the EU and the rest of the UK.
