
San Francisco Toy Store That Inspired ‘Toy Story’ to Close After 85 Years
A beloved family-owned toy store that inspired Disney’s animated movie “Toy Story” will close next month after 85 years in business, the owners announced Jan. 23. They cited the “perils and violence of the downtown environment,” inflation, the worldwide decrease in consumer spending, and the demise of retail as reasons behind the decision to shutter Jeffrey’s Toys, the family’s attorney, Ken Sterling, told SF Gate. The store, located on Kearny Avenue, will close Feb. 10, according to Mr. Sterling. “The family is saddened it has come to this,” he told the news outlet via an emailed statement. “The leadership of the City of San Francisco and the Downtown Association have their work cut out for them on how to revitalize what was once a vibrant and fun downtown experience.”...
