The City of Oakland, California has protected renters over landlords in a trend that will see more evictions and homelessness in the future, according to a San Francisco Bay real estate expert who specializes in the city. At issue are rent and eviction moratoriums enacted during the pandemic, which resulted in many landlords not receiving rent for years, Jonathan Fleming said on a recent episode of EpochTV’s “Bay Area Innovators.” After Oakland’s moratorium expired last July, eviction cases soared.
