
12-Year-Old Loan Forgiveness Program for Doctors, Nurses Lacks Awareness: Report
A federal incentive dating back 12 years has brought less than 18,000 doctors and nurses to rural Canada because medical students are largely unaware of the debt forgiveness program, according to a recently released report. The Department of Employment report found that just 17,921 doctors and nurses agreed to practice in under-served rural or remote communities since 2012 in exchange for $172.2 million in loan forgiveness as part of the Canada Student Financial Assistance (CSFA) program.
