Thousands of protestors have rallied on the steps of Victoria’s Parliament to call for a change to Australia Day as part of a series of “Invasion Day” rallies being held across the country. Jan. 26 marks the day when the First Fleet arrived at Sydney Cove in 1788. Supporters of Australia Day say that Jan. 26 is a commemoration of the founding of Australia’s democracy and rule of law, while opposers observe the day as Britain’s invasion of the Aboriginal people, namely “Invasion Day.” “Invasion Day is a day when Aboriginal people reaffirm their commitment to the ongoing struggle for justice,” Aboriginal Australian activist Gary Foley said in Melbourne, reported The Herald Sun....
