Baghdad Decries ‘Irresponsible Escalation’ Following More US Strikes on Iraq

Baghdad has condemned a fresh round of U.S. military strikes on targets inside Iraq, warning the move would only aggravate tensions in the already volatile Middle East region. “This unacceptable act undermines years of [U.S.-Iraq] cooperation, blatantly violates Iraq’s sovereignty, and amounts to an irresponsible escalation,” Iraqi military spokesman Yehia Rasool said in a Jan. 24 statement. The latest round of U.S. strikes, he added, “occurs at a time when the region is already grappling with the danger of a widening conflict and the repercussions of [Israeli] aggression against Gaza.” On Jan. 23, the U.S. military carried out airstrikes on multiple positions inside Iraq said to be linked to Iraqi Shiite militia groups....

ATHENS, Ga.—Former Georgia mascot Uga X, whose eight-year run included back-to-back national championships, died Tuesday.Uga X, part of the line of English bulldog mascots which began in 1955, was 2 when he began his run on the Sanford Stadium sideline in 2015.
