Federal Grant for Home Retrofits Soon Expiring, Interest-Free Loans Up to $40K Remain

The federal government’s Greener Homes Grant, which offers refunds to homeowners, is set to close in March. A federal greener homes interest-free loan program will continue, offering up to $40,000 for retrofits with 10 years to pay it back. Through the grant, homeowners who retrofit their properties with environmentally friendly upgrades are eligible to receive up to $5,000 back. Top retrofits done as part of the program include windows, doors, heat pumps, air sealing, home insulation, and solar panels, according to Natural Resources. The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) said that they were informed the program would stop taking applications in March, something that came as a surprise....
