Shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson has announced plans for a register for all home-educated children and for a “joined up” system to monitor youngsters’ attendance at nurseries and schools as well as contact with health visitors. Speaking at the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) think tank—considered to be centre-right—Ms. Phillipson said that while lockdowns had done “lasting damage” to children, she believes the government was correct to close down schools “in the face of a terrifying and unknown disease.” The CSJ produced a study showing that almost a third of parents do not think it is essential for their child to attend school every day....
