Passengers Recall Death-Defying Escape from Flaming Japan Airlines Jet

Flights resumed Monday on the runway at Tokyo’s Haneda airport that saw a deadly plane collision on the second day of the new year. As the investigation into the cause of the accident continues, passengers and crew of Japan Airlines (JAL) flight 516 are reflecting on an experience that is being hailed as both a “textbook” evacuation and a “miracle.”  An inferno with panic, smoke, and explosions—like a scene from a disaster movie—was experienced by the 367 passengers and 12 crew members of the Airbus A350. The flight from Hokkaido had just landed at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at 5:47 p.m. on Jan. 2 when it collided with a Japanese coast guard plane carrying relief supplies for earthquake survivors....
