‘Backbone’ of Australian Electricity Grid Facing Industrial Action

New South Wales (NSW) electricity network workers are set to walk off the job demanding better pay, affecting infrastructure giant Transgrid’s operations across the board. Members of the Electrical Trades Union (ETU) NSW at Transgrid will begin the industrial action from Jan. 5, delaying planned maintenance and potentially affecting power outages. It will include a one-hour work stoppage by all ETU members as well as six indefinite work bans by control room staff, who act as critical workers in the company’s nerve centre.
