
Ottawa Launches Consultation for Federal Plastics Registry
The federal government has announced plans for a national registry that would require companies to track and report their plastic production in a bid to reach its goal of zero plastic waste by 2030. But first Ottawa wants input from local governments, companies, and other stakeholders as well as from interested members of the public on how the federal plastics registry should be run. Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault said the government has launched public consultations to gather feedback via email or letter through Feb. 13. “Canadians are demanding action to tackle the plastic waste and pollution crisis, and the federal government will continue to act,” Mr. Guilbeault said in a Jan. 2 press release. “The federal plastics registry is an important tool that will help track and manage plastics across the economy.”...
