UK to Defend Troubles Legacy Act Amid Ireland’s Legal Challenge at European Court

The government has vowed to defend the Troubles Legacy Act and expressed its regret over Ireland’s decision to begin a legal challenge against the UK. The controversial Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Act became law in September. It established an Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery (ICRIR) and limited new criminal investigations and civil actions related to the Troubles.
