DUP Unlikely to Accept UK Government Offer to Restore Northern Ireland Power-Sharing by Christmas

Negotiations are continuing about restoring power-sharing in Northern Ireland but the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) appears unlikely to agree a deal before Christmas. The BBC and PA Media both say they have been told by DUP sources that an agreement will not take place this week, as the DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, continues to face pressure from hardliners within his own party and the rival Traditional Ulster Voice (TUV). TUV posters—which say “Stop DUP sell-out”—have been put up close to the homes and offices of several DUP politicians over the weekend amid claims Sir Jeffrey’s party were considering accepting a deal which would involve £2.5 billion of money from the government in London....
