More Kids Skipping Fruit, Veges as Experts Raise Alarm

Public health advocates are calling for action to curb obesity after fewer Australian children were found to be eating fruit and vegetables. The number of children eating the recommended amount of fruit has dropped substantially, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ National Health Survey results. This was down by nine percent (73 percent to 64 percent) in the five years to 2022. Just one in 20 children ate the recommended daily serving of vegetables. The proportion of children who did not eat vegetables every day tripled from 1.5 percent in 2011-12 to 4.5 percent in 2022.
