
ANALYSIS: The Cost of Canada’s Green Energy Subsidies
Ottawa has committed to spending $200 billion to fight climate change, but some economists say it may not be taxpayer money well spent. The federal government announced earlier this year clean energy investment tax credits worth more than $60 billion. Combined with the billions in subsidies for the electric vehicle industry and many other clean energy initiatives, the final tally is approximately $200 billion, Environment Minister Steve Guilbeault said. Some economists say that heavily subsidizing the industry is a risky investment of taxpayer dollars, and it won’t be easy to wean the industry off the subsidies. “We don’t even know the companies will succeed,” economist Jack Mintz told The Epoch Times via email. “And it is well possible some technologies we think today will work, will be replaced by another.”...
