House of Commons Votes Unanimously for Resolution to Amendment on House Speaker’s Misconduct

MPs in the House of Commons unanimously voted in favour of an amendment to a motion that would have Speaker of the House Greg Fergus’s misconduct referred to the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs (PROC) to recommend an “appropriate remedy.” While the actual motion on Mr. Fergus’s conduct has yet to be voted on, the 310–0 v0te was over an amendment to the motion that would see that PROC meet “within 24 hours” of a passed motion to consider the matter, and that the issue “take priority over all other business.” PROC would also need to report back to the House of Commons with their verdict no later than Dec. 14, which is the second-last day the House will sit for 2023....
