
Top Ally of Former House Speaker McCarthy Confirms He’s Retiring
A top Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives is retiring at the end of the current Congress, he announced Dec. 5, joining a growing wave of members who won’t seek another term. “I will be retiring from Congress at the end of my current term,” Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) said in a statement. “This is not a decision I come to lightly, but I believe there is a season for everything and—for me—this season has come to an end.” Mr. McHenry, 48, has represented North Carolina in the House since 2005. He ascended to the top ranks in the GOP, becoming speaker pro tempore, or acting speaker, when Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was removed as speaker in October.
