Fed’s Waller Hints at Rates Cuts in 2024 Amid Cooling Inflation, Others Want to Wait

The Federal Reserve could begin cutting interest rates next year if inflation continues to cool down, says one member of the U.S. central bank’s Board of Governors. Delivering remarks at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) on Nov. 28, Fed Gov. Christopher Waller suggested that monetary authorities could lower the benchmark fed funds rate if policymakers are confident that inflation is coming down to the 2 percent target in a sustainable manner. “It has nothing to do with trying to save the economy. It is consistent with every policy rule. There is no reason to say we will keep it really high,” Mr. Waller said....
