
‘Moonlighting’ Council Workers Investigated by Anti-Fraud Authority
A national anti-fraud initiative has been investigating council workers after staff were caught “moonlighting” while working from home. The National Fraud Initiative (NFI) has been reviewing employees who misleadingly hold two or more jobs at the same time in what is known as “multiple contract working.” “One of the types of fraud cases the NFI has identified includes multiple contract working, where an individual misleadingly works in two roles at the same time, including at local councils,” a Cabinet Office spokesman told LBC. Under the practice, a worker obtains more than one salary while putting in half the hours. The NFI, which is operated by the Cabinet Office, uses data-matching to detect and prevent fraud at large.
