
Thanksgiving Travel Predicted to Be Busiest in Years—Here’s What You Can Expect
On Nov. 13, AAA announced its prediction that 2023 will see one of the busiest Thanksgiving travel years in a long time. About 55.4 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving, marking a 2.3 percent increase in road travel over 2022. AAA estimates that this will be the third-busiest Thanksgiving travel period since it started tracking the data 20 years ago. The majority of these holiday travelers, about 49.1 million, will be winding their way through the nation’s back roads and highways by car, an increase of 1.7 percent over 2022. That estimate doesn’t include the number of Americans who are expected to start their travels in the days ahead of the traditional five-day peak period, which runs between the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (Nov. 22) and the Sunday after (Nov. 26)....
