
Advocates Nationwide Working to Get Abortion on the Ballot in 2024
As Ohio voters adjust to the enshrinement of abortion in their state constitution, groups both for and against abortion in several other states are already preparing ballot initiatives of their own for what is likely to be a pivotal election year in 2024. On Nov. 7, Ohio became the seventh state to vote in favor of abortion access following the U.S. Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade last year. In a margin of 57 to 43 percent, voters passed Issue 1, a citizen-led amendment to cement a right to abortion and other “reproductive decisions” in the Ohio Constitution. The amendment was opposed by pro-life advocates and others who felt its language was overly broad and left too much open to interpretation, including whether abortion would be permitted through all nine months of pregnancy....
