
Wallkill Revises Procurement Code to Comply With NY State Law

The town of Wallkill, New York, updated its code governing procurement practices on Nov. 9 to match the guidelines set forth in the state law. The town adopted the code in 1992 and last updated it in 2004. According to the updated code, before a new purchase is made, a good faith effort shall be made to determine the accumulative dollar amounts spent on the order over a year. If the total contract amount is expected to exceed $20,000—or $35,000 for a public works contract—a competitive bidding process shall be used. For contracts below $20,000 but over $1,200—or under $35,000 but above $5,000, three written quotes shall be sought; for those valued even lower, department heads or the purchasing agent can decide at their discretion. ...
